Picking your own apples at Ridgefield Farm has become very popular for folks from WV and the three neighboring states and Washington, DC. During any given year we have about fourteen different varieties, which ripen at different times throughout the season, which last from August through October. Most of the apples in our orchard are picked by guests to the farm.
Our first apple for guests to pick is Gala, which is available generally the last weekend in August through mid-September.
We’ll pick some apples ourselves, of course, and you’ll be able to buy them at our store here on the farm and at the Charles Town and Shepherdstown Farmers Markets.
At Ridgefield Farm our apple trees are grafted on dwarf root stock and trained on trellises in rows, which makes apples easy to pick for visitors young and old, short and tall. Each year we even have folks picking from their wheelchairs.
Whether you are a returning customer or new to the experience, the fun of picking your own fresh apples is not to be missed.
